Symptoms that should prompt medical attention are a change in your normal bowel habit. This can be:
- Diarrhoea – passage of loose or more frequent stools
- Constipation – passage of harder or less frequent stool
- Presence of blood on toilet paper, in the toilet pan or mixed in with the stool
Any additional symptoms such as weight loss require URGENT investigation. A colonoscopy is usually recommended as the first test to investigate a change in bowel habit.
